2019 Senior Wellness Expo Be The Own Hero Of Your Health! The 2019 Senior Wellness Expo will be taking place on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Yorba Linda Community Center. The event is sponsored by UC Irvine Health and will feature 60+ exhibitor booths, flu shots, medical screenings, medication take-back, informative seminars, healthy snacks, and much more. New Street Tree Beautification Program As part of the ongoing beautification efforts by the City of Yorba Linda, the City is offering a new Street Tree Beautification Program. At the request of a property owner, the City will select and plant one 15-gallon tree within their Public Parkway. The selected tree shall be maintained by the property owner. COUNTY & STATE REGULATIONS
OC Board Actions The Board of Supervisors met on September 10th. Notable actions taken included the following:
• Approve recommended positions on introduced or amended legislation and consider other legislative subject matters (All Districts) – Approved as recommended;
• Approve grant applications/awards submitted in 9/10/19 grant report and other actions as recommended (All Districts) – Approved as recommended.
• Approve amendment to 2019 Contract Policy Manual revising Section 3.3-102(1)(b) (All Districts) - Approved as Recommended.
• Approve contract MA-031-20010105 with Hart InterCivic, Inc. for voting equipment, software, firmware and hardware maintenance, support and services. (All Districts) - Approved as Recommended. The next regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 9:30am.
Gov. Gavin Newsom Signs Bill to Expand which California Workers Get Employee Benefits A high-profile bill to expand which workers are entitled to employee benefits will soon be California law after Gov. Gavin Newsom gave it final approval Wednesday. Assembly Bill 5 enshrines a new employee classification test into state law, codifying a 2018 California Supreme Court decision and carving out exemptions for some professions, including doctors and real estate agents. Assembly Passes Accessory Dwelling Units Bill to Encourage More Construction With bipartisan support, the state Assembly last week approved an accessory dwelling units, often referred to as granny flats, bill that targets some of the biggest remaining barriers blocking their construction in California. SB 13, authored by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) is strongly supported by ADU advocates across the state, California Chamber of Commerce, California Association of Realtors, California State Retirees and many others. First Annual Orange County Regional Job Fair Over 400 job seekers are expected to meet with potential Orange County employers at the First Annual Orange County Regional Job Fair. Hosted by the Orange County Board of Supervisors and in partnership with the Orange County Workforce Development Board (OCDB), Anaheim Workforce Development Board, Santa Ana Workforce Development Board and Fullerton City Council, the OC Regional Job Fair will take place on Thursday, October 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Fullerton. GO-BIZ and CDFA Announce $600,000 Federal Grant for California’s Global Trade Expansion Program The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced that California received a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to help California small businesses boost trade and exports abroad. CDFA and GO-Biz will use the funds as part of the California State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) to help California small businesses participate in activities like foreign trade shows and access foreign markets through trade promotion initiatives. Japan to Eliminate Tariffs on U.S. Wine in Trade Deal Japan has agreed to phase out tariffs on U.S. wine imports as part of a bilateral trade deal expected to be signed at the end of the month. Trump Poised to Hit EU with Billions in Tariffs after Victory in Airbus Case The World Trade Organization ruled in favor of the U.S. in the long-running transatlantic dispute over EU illegal subsidies for Airbus. The decision means that U.S. President Donald Trump will almost certainly soon announce tariffs on European products ranging from cheeses to Airbus plane. [Politico]
